ONAM:Then and Now

Wake up, run for flowers red yellow and blue

Lazily wake, onam wishes on the phone I glue

Floral carpet made, the best one- all argue

Now- making floral carpet, no idea, no clue

Breakfast table crowded, kids, a dozen at least

None for special banana breakfast, all prefer a toast

Lot family work put in, make the onam feast

Bother not cooking, order online- get it fast

Onam games, take part all in the neighborhood

None go out, virtual games and the Hollywood,

Winner’s pride for a year- the trophy made of wood

Social media search continues, crush of childhood

Drinks party that adults enjoyed in the evening

This tradition upheld, we genuinely are following

The only change: addition of, "non-veg touching"

Now or then, we ready for our king's home- coming

Echo

My teen twin sons broke into a fight
Each claim, the other one is not right
A while, I shouted with all my might 
Their stare at me, felt like a slap tight

Later thought over, "that staring look"
Body language- take me on, me it shook
Gave back anger, analyze -time it took 
Got what I gave, time to loosen the hook

Shout from  the top of a mountain terrain
Shouts back, the words, the tone remain

Say lovely things, to this unknown brain

Sure to get back, the love, it did maintain    

Life, like an echo, you get what you give
Go bit slower, learn to forget and forgive

Radiate genuine nature, the way you live 

Good people surround you, keep you alive

"Honey - It's all Money "

Feel, everything in life can be bought by money
Leave the dear ones, in pursuit of making money 
Realize, the only life, wasted in search of money
Pauper, the person who has nothing, but money

Some- borrow, spent, bother not- to return money 

Live life on credit, able not to pay back the money

EMIs, life's part, only way they can payback money

Enjoy not life, engrossed in ways to make money 

Misers -save for future, enjoy not- their money

Spendthrifts -save not, repent spending their money 

Some souls live awesome life, sharing their money 

Cheats find immense pleasure , stealing others' money

Taxes, the way government takes citizen's money

Evade taxes, natives devised white and black money

Straight, crooked, hard, many ways to make money

No right, no wrong, this world do anything for money

Cannot neglect, to live in here- one requires money

Make some, or the dear ones say: "honey, its all money"

Relations at bay, change  with the amount of money

The sin of Adam, else all in paradise, need no money

Indian Elephant

Blind men, check an elephant, none accompany 

Elephant like a rope, sure- check not further any

Wall, snake, fan, spear, pillar- conclusions many

Neither did a recheck, nor change their views any 

Sounds familiar, our political system, eternal  pain

Shown faith in them, disappointed time and again

An illiterate but clever, thought the better bargain

Survive with tricks up the sleeve, seldom uses brain 

States looking up for help, given a shoulder cold

Billions spent on statue, actions for all to behold

Corona vaccine secondary, cow's urine amply sold

Blind have limitations, we approach the threshold 

Far away the elephant, beyond their imagination 

Developing we remain, all our leaders lack vision

For sure, cannot see a status change, our generation

As usual, dwell in the past, India - a great nation

The Old Tree!

Right in front of the house stood an old tree
She talked to her shadow at times when free
Still believes she is on a fruit-producing spree
Little did she knew her age past century three

Selflessly she bore fruits, didn't rest a while
Fed all like offsprings, never turned volatile
Limited resources, brought them up her guile
Whole day she busy but always wore a smile

The tree is old and weak, no more offers seen
Turned pale yellow her leaves, from green 
She now worthless, faded away the sheen
Even forgot entirely how her life has been?

Weak, her fall a threat, let us cut her off!
No, let's try replant, from here send her off!
Out of our sight, the pain, the tension is off!
Opinions plenty, all excited to see her off!

Green remains not, sure to turn yellow pale
Realize, all measured with the same scale 
Respect the age, behave, boost your morale
Reap whatever you sow, the moral of the tale

Math Text Book

A loud scream woke me up from sleep

Searched for the origin, found all asleep

Hear a sob, to the children's room I peep

Math textbook - inconsolably it weeps

"Why crying?" curiosity I couldn't contain

"My first few pages are gone. I'm in pain

Some pages I've solutions, but in vain

Why am I ill-treated? may please explain"

"Cry not, shall get back", I said, "hold on"

Asked son, he said, "textbook?, dad c'mon!

Finished it long back, the revision is on

Now Apps, not textbooks I like to own"

Study options plenty, all solutions online

Google voice search, is just next to divine

Exams? worry not, practice perfectly fine

Textbook used only by google, rest all inline

Went back and conveyed it to the textbook

"Online classes!" it gave me a surprised look

Consoled, I said, "the virtual world uses eBook"

Bang I left, leaving alone my favorite book

Love yourself

This poem is dedicated to all NRKs who leave their home and work from different states or abroad. I have seen people working at 54 degrees to earn about 1000 Riyal (INR 20 000 ) and sent all the money back home. They spent 100 riyals per month for the accommodation and 3 Riyal per day for the three breads they eat (One for breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner) 

Looking at the mirror saw a man very lean

Haven't seen him before, the mirror I clean

Mirror was happier, always shown a teen

Realize self, such a shape- I've never been

Look back, myself not on my priority list 

Nothing there for me on the shopping list

Thought, take care of loved ones- life's gist

Forgot to love me, forgot in here I too exist

Loving oneself- not selfish, the right practice

Take good care of self, else readily pay the price

Enjoy the self, talk, make fun, add some spice

You only companion you've, self you service

Appreciate self for each and every achievement

Your talent & skills, every day spend a moment

Ensure any of your actions never let you lament 

World ends with you, You- its kid very important
